4 Easy Ways to Combat Dry Scalp in the Winter

Winter is approaching, and with the colder temps also comes dry hair and scalp. Are you assessing your regimen to determine what you may need to change in order to keep your scalp moisturized this winter? Here are a few tips that we have found helpful to help you keep your scalp moisturized this fall and winter. 

 

Do an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple Cider Vinegar has been a staple for many naturalistas and it is for good reason. ACV has many purposes. ACV helps to restore your scalp’s pH and it also helps dry scalp symptoms like itchiness, dryness and flaky scalp. To moisturize your you can make a DIY hair rinse. Use 1/2 cup of ACV and 2 cups of water. On wash day you would wash with your shampoo and the final step would include Wash your hair normally and make a final step the hair rinse with this mixture. Then massage your scalp, and leave in for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse. Your scalp will thank you!

 

Use Mild Shampoo

Many shampoos can dry out your scalp and hair. To make sure that you are keeping your scalp moisturized look for products that are sulfate-free. A really good sulfate-free shampoo that is very moisturizing is Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Shampoo.

 

Keep Your Scalp Oiled

It’s important that in colder temps that you oil your scalp on a regular basis. Massage an oil like Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Oil onto your scalp to help prevent dry, itchy and flaky scalp. You don’t need to use a lot just enough to lightly coat your scalp. We don’t suggest that you oil your scalp daily. It’s best to oil your scalp a few days before you wash day.  

 

Reduce The Heat

If you use heat a lot If you should ease up on heat styling in the colder months. should keep it to a minimum. The hot air can suck the moisture out of your hair which can lead to dry scalp.  Desert dry scalp. If you use heat a lot reduce set the temperature on your heat styling tools to the lowest setting possible.
